- Welcome to the Walnut Creek CDROM Sentimental Wings, May 1994 edition!
-
- ===========================================================================
-
- Known Bugs:
-
- This disc does not work when Netware drivers have been loaded. If
- you are currently running Netware drivers, please edit your AUTOEXEC.BAT
- file to "rem" out the lines invoking the drivers.
-
- ===========================================================================
-
- Notes on running the Sentimental Wings program "PLANES.EXE"
-
- IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO RUN SETUP.EXE TO USE Sentimental Wings.
-
- PLANES.EXE can be run directly from the CDROM without any
- installation steps whatsoever. Just open the file manager and click
- on PLANES.EXE to run the program.
-
- If you do run SETUP.EXE, it will slightly improve the performance by
- copying a few support files to your hard disk. Roughly 2 megabytes
- of hard disk space will be used if you choose to run SETUP.EXE. When
- SETUP.EXE is run, a new program group called "PLANES" is created and
- the Sentimental Wings program is placed inside it.
-
- Sentimental Wings does not use WINDOWS.INI or any other *.INI files.
-
- The files which SETUP.EXE copies to your hard disk are:
-
- \WINDOWS\SYSTEM\THREED.VBX
- \WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MSAES110.DLL
- \WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MSAJT110.DLL
- \WINDOWS\SYSTEM\VBDB200.DLL
- \WINDOWS\SYSTEM\VBRUN300.DLL
- \WINDOWS\SYSTEM\DDEML.DLL
- \WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SETUPKIT.DLL
- \PLANES\PLANES.EXE
- \PLANES\WINGS.MDB
-
- If you do not run SETUP.EXE, none of these files are copied to your
- hard disk.
-
- When the PLANES.EXE program is run from the Program Manager in
- Windows, be sure that you indicate which drive the CDROM disc is
- loaded in. For example, if your CDROM is drive D: then the program
- should be run with "PLANES.EXE D:" in the File->Properties->Command
- Line parameter under the Program Manager.
-
- ERRORS:
-
- If the program reports "Could not find some of the CDROM files." when
- it is launched from an icon then make sure that the Command Line
- parameter (see above) indicates which drive the CD is loaded in.
-

- This disk conforms to the level 1, ISO-9660 format. All the
- filenames are limited to eight single-case characters, with an
- extension of up to three characters. Most directories have an index
- file named 00_index.txt that contains a description of each file in
- the directory.
-
- ===========================================================================
- USING THE VIEW PROGRAM
-
- To use this disc, merely change your drive to your CD-ROM drive
- (usually accomplished by entering "D:" at the MS-DOS prompt and
- pressing enter), then type "VIEW" in the root directory of the CD-ROM
- drive, then press enter. The VIEW program will then display a
- listing of the subdirectories and their description on the disc. Use
- the cursor keys to move the highlight bar up and down the screen,
- then press ENTER to change into any of the subdirectories. The VIEW
- program will then display a list of files within that particular
- subdirectory. (To return back to the subdirectory listing, press the
- ESCAPE key.)
-
- While in the list of files, the VIEW program can let you read a text
- file, uncompress a zipped file, or copy a file onto another drive.
-
- To read a text file, merely position the highlight bar onto the line
- with the filename you wish to read, then press ENTER. While reading
- the document, if you wish to search for a string, press either the
- "S" key, CONTROL-S (type "S" while holding down the Control key), or
- F9 then enter the string for which you wish to search. For further
- occurrences of the string, merely press the S key, CONTROL-S, or F9
- key. You may do reverse searches by pressing R, CONTROL-R, or F10 in
- the same manner.
-
- To uncompress a file, position the highlight bar onto the line with
- the filename you wish to uncompress, then press ENTER. The screen
- will change to ask you to where you wish to uncompress the file, the
- default being a directory on your C: drive. If you wish, you may
- edit the destination. Press ENTER to begin uncompressing the file,
- or press ESCAPE to abort. After uncompressing, you will have the
- option to either exit out to the directory to which the VIEW program
- uncompressed the file, or to return to the menu; if you decide to
- return the menu, be sure to remember to where the file was
- uncompressed!
-
- To copy a file, position the highlight bar onto the line with the
- wish to copy, then press ENTER. The screen will change to ask you to
- where you wish to copy the file, the default being a directory on
- your C: drive. If you wish, you may edit the destination. Press
- ENTER to copy the file, or press ESCAPE to abort.
